How is the social perception on different gender affecting the gender balance of the education industry in Hong Kong?

According to my content analysis, there are 50% of people specialise to hire a female tutor. In this part of posts, there are 60% that are hiring a female as a Language tutor. It seems like that female is having advantages in the education industry.

Next, it states that women are not yet free of the burden of gender stereotypes. When female seeks male gender-typed positions, they are prone to be seen as incompetent to handle them. Because of this social perception, people would not try. In this case, the situation is different.  As I mentioned, the female is having advantages in the education industry because of the social perception that I found in the interview. The environment of Hong Kong education industry is not equal to male and female.  (Heilman, M. E., 2012)

According to the academic resource, it states that the education industry is dominated by the female. (Drudy, S., 2008).

For the 2nd of the interview, the male interviewee states that there are difficulties for him to find a private tutor job.

The academic findings, my interview result and the content analysis result are matching.

All the data and academic is showing that the social perception on different gender affecting the gender balance of the education industry in Hong Kong.

What is the relationship between people’s perception of different gender and their choice of personal tutor in Hong Kong?

According to the 1st part of the interview, I found that there is a gender stereotype in Hong Kong people’s perception. Hong Kong people think that girl is more sensitive, caring and having a better language skill than the boy. Also, the boy is good at maths and science in their perception.

Based on this kind of perception in Hong Kong, the female seems like a better choice for a private tutor. It is matching the academic resource that I found.

In this journal, it states that the teaching of young children has long been dominated by women. It shows that the gender bias is strongly affecting the gender balance in the education industry. (Drudy, S., 2008).
