Interviews
I arranged an interview for 2 groups of people. The first interview is for the parent who wants to hire a private tutor. The second interview is for the male and female university who are/were a private tutor.

​1st Interview

Parent - A - 47 years old, female
Mina - M:
What is your impression of the different gender? character?
M: Can you tell me your first impression of the different gender?
A: Um… From my point of view, I think that girls are more sensitive than the boys. They care more about the details comparing to the boys. They are more patient to take care of people. Most of the boys seem to like doing thing roughly but they are good at maths and science.
M: how about the impression of the general character?
A: I think girls are more caring. As I said, they are more sensitive. overall, I think that there is no an obvious difference for boys and girls.
What gender would you prefer to hire as a private tutor?
A: I think it doesn’t matter. I care about their performance more than gender. I can compare different tutor refer to their public exam result.
What kind of requirement that you would ask for when you are hiring a private tutor?
A: I would like to find a university student for my daughter. I think finding a younger tutor is better. My daughter will communicate more with the tutor. My daughter is very shy. maybe finding an outgoing tutor is better.
M: so the age is one of the requirements for hiring a private tutor. How about the character or anything else? except outgoing.
A: A caring people maybe.
M: May I ask what is your daughter’s elective subjects?
A: Sure. It’s physics and the chemistry.
M: What gender would you prefer to hire as your daughter physics or chemistry tutor?
A: A boy. Most of the boy get a better result in science.
M: How much would you pay for the boy?
A: HKD150-200/hr I guess. I have to check the market first.
M: Does your daughter need a private tutor excluded the science subject? How much would you pay for?
A: She needs some improvement in Liberal studies or English. I would pay around HKD150/hr.
2nd Interview
People who were a private tutor (male/female):
Student B (male) - B - 20 years old, the university student
Student F (female) - F - 21 years old, the university student

Are there any difficulties for you to find a private tutor job?
F: I don’t think that there are any difficulties for me. There are so many parents seeking a female tutor.
B: That’s difficult for me. First, as F said, there are so many parents seeking for a female tutor. Sometimes, they even don’t mention that they want a female specific. Then, when I apply for the job, they said they don’t want me.
Do you think that the pay of different gender is equal?
F: I don’t see any unequal for our pay. isn’t it?
M: I agree with you. I think that the pay is based on your experience and performance.
